As previously mentioned the number of serves per cows recorded on AI handheld devices is up 7% when compared to this time 12 months ago. The breeds with the most serves recorded so far in 2017 and for same time period in 2016 are listed below.

From Table 1 above, we can see that the most highly used breed of dairy sire so far this year is Holstein/Friesian. Holstein/Friesians have 466,383 (91.55%) AI handheld serves recorded so far this year. This does not take into account DIY serves so his actual usage will be higher in reality. Second on the list are Jersey AI serves. There have been 34,003 (6.67%) Jersey AI handheld serves recorded so far in 2017. Third on the list Montbelliarde AI serves. Montbelliardes have had 2,110 (0.41%) AI handheld serves recorded so far in 2017.

From Table 2 above, we can see that HO/FR serves are down 1.16% of total serves in 2017 when compared to 2016 (92.71%). In contrast to this Jersey serves are up 1.04% of total serves this year when compared to the 2016 figure of 5.63%. The figure for other breeds have remained largely unchanged when compared with 2016.
