Tullamore show is the pinnacle event in the calendar for Irish pedigree beef breeders. With most pedigree societies holding their national finals at the show, it is an annual pilgrimage made worthwhile by the chance of coming home with national championship.
One such championship was the Simmental Junior Male title which was claimed at this year’s show by Tulla Jaguar P. Bred by the O’Halloran family, Tulla, Co.Clare, this April 2017 born bull is sired by the Gene Ireland test sire Curaheen Evolution P (ETP). Displaying exceptional physical attributes on the day, Jaguar also has an impressive Euro-Star Index with a Replacement Index of €128 and is 5 stars for docility, carcass weight and milk.
Curaheen Evolution P (ETP) was bred by the late David Wall, Newcastle, Co. Dublin. He was purchased by the Gene Ireland Simmental committee in autumn 2014 and 500 doses of semen were distributed to commercial suckler farmers in spring 2015. The first daughters of ETP are expected to calve down this year. The performance of these daughters will be monitored closely and should they perform well, ETP semen will be made available to Whole Herd Performance Recording (WHPR) herds with a view to breeding future elite test sires.
