As previously mentioned the number of serves per cows recorded on AI handheld devices is up 7% when compared to this time 12 months ago. The sires with the most serves recorded so far in 2017 are listed below.

From Table 1 above, the most highly used ‘dairy on dairy’ sire so far this year is FR2385 (IG) Nextgen YKG Candy 593. ‘Candy’ has 25,404 AI handheld serves recorded so far this year. This does not take into account DIY serves so his actual usage will be higher in reality. Second on the list is FR2371 (IG) Ardragold Parker. There have been 24,338 AI handheld serves recorded from ‘Parker’ so far in 2017. Third on the list is FR2239 (IG) Diamond Anton. ‘Anton’ has 23,309 AI handheld serves recorded so far in 2017.

From Table 2 above, the most highly used ‘beef on dairy’ sire so far this year is KYA Cornamuckla Lord Hardy K222 ‘Lord Hardy’ has 19,012 AI handheld serves recorded so far this year in dairy herds. This does not take into account DIY serves so his actual usage will be higher in reality. He has a calving difficulty figure of 0.7%. Second on the list is HE2043 Solpoll 1 Kentucky Kid P HYF. There have been 16,874 AI handheld serves recorded from ‘Kentucky Kid’ in dairy herds so far in 2017. He has a calving difficulty figure of 3.4%. Third on the list is SPL SOLPOLL 1 HANDSOME {HYC} . ‘Handsome’ has 7,597 AI handheld serves recorded in dairy herds so far in 2017. He has a calving difficulty figure of 3.2%.

From Table 3 above, the most highly used ‘beef on beef’ sire so far this year is Limousin sire ZAG Castleview Gazelle. ‘Gazelle’ has 12,886 ‘beef on beef’ AI handheld serves recorded so far this year. This does not take into account DIY serves so his actual usage will be higher in reality. ZAG was progeny tested through Gene Ireland Beef in 2014. Second on the list is Charolais sire FSZ Fiston. There have been 8,344 AI handheld serves recorded from ‘Fiston’ in beef herds so far in 2017. Third on the list is LZF Cavelands Fenian. ‘Fenian’ has 4,596 AI handheld serves recorded in beef herds so far in 2017. LZF was also progeny tested through Beef Gene Ireland.
