The Top 200 herds for EBI have been revealed. For the first time in five evaluations, we have a new herd-owner claiming the top spot. The highest EBI figure has also seen change with the top herd now at €239 (an increase of €4 from the previous run).
Kieran Hearne, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Waterford takes pole position having been second in the previous three evaluation runs. Kieran has an average herd EBI of €239 (€66 coming from the milk sub-index and €138 coming from the fertility sub-index).
James Murray, Derrinsallagh, Birr, Co. Offaly has moved up six places into second position with an EBI of €234(€233.9) (€61 coming from the milk sub-index and €138 coming from the fertility sub-index). Pat Flynn comes in at number three on the list with an EBI of €234(€233.7) (€19 coming from the milk sub-index and €181 coming from the fertility sub-index).
Jim Delahunt, Carrig, Co. Tipperary has climbed one position to fourth with an EBI of €232(€231.9) (€53 coming from the milk sub-index and €141 coming from the fertility sub-index) while Timothy Fitzgerald, Green Road, Ballyroan, Portlaoise, Co. Laois claiming fifth position with an EBI of €232 (€231.7) (€56 coming from the milk sub-index and €136 coming from the fertility sub-index)
Clement Twomey, Mount Rivers, Fermoy, Co. Cork has recorded the biggest jump for this evaluation with his average EBI rising from €193 to €210, an average jump of €17. This puts Clement in 33rd position on the list, a massive 92 places better than the previous evaluation.
There are now 93 herds with an EBI of €200 or more. This is an increase of 30 herds from the previous evaluation. This top 200 saw 25 herds make the list for the first time with 75 herds climbing up the ranks.

The average EBI of the Top 200 herds is €201 (up €3) with €63 coming from the Milk Sub-Index and €103 from the Fertility Sub-Index. This compares with a national average of €137 – see table below.
