We had another record-breaking week in the Genotyping Lab last week! Between Monday and Friday, an incredible 118,030 calf DNA samples were scanned — the largest weekly intake ever! A huge milestone for genetic progress and the team behind it.

Last week’s figures

  • 118,030 calf samples were received in the lab.
  • 116,673 calf samples were processed in the lab.
  • The average time from birth to the sample being received in the lab was 7.2 days.
  • The average time a sample spent in the lab last week was 4.6 days.
  • The average turnaround time from birth to passport being issued was 14.5 days.

As calving continues across the country, we encourage all farmers to regularly post DNA and BVD samples to avoid potential postage delays. Please be advised that postal delays may also occur in the delivery of the animal passports. Unfortunately, these delays are outside of ICBF’s control.
