The latest version of the ICBF HerdPlus app is now available for farmers. This update contains lots of new features including:
- Generate reports via WhatsApp
- Genomic Parentage Results Profile
- Due Repeat Profile
- Calf Index Predictions
- Record Weights
Generate reports via WhatsApp
The Reports feature in the ICBF HerdPlus app lets you download reports anywhere, anytime, with just one tap.
The latest upgrade to the app allows you to send the report to yourself via WhatsApp. Simply choose the report you want to view/send, tap the download icon and it will be sent straight to your mobile via WhatsApp for quick and easy access — no need to be at a computer.
This means you can save time by getting the information instantly, make decisions faster with data at your fingertips and share reports easily with advisers, vets, technicians etc.
To use this feature, log in to the ICBF HerdPlus app, open the Reports section, select your desired report, and receive it instantly on WhatsApp.
Genomic Parentage Results
The Genomic Parentage Results profile lists all animals for which parentage checks have been completed, along with their results. For each animal, you’ll see the sex, dam, and sire details recorded at birth, the DNA-predicted results, and the information currently displayed on the blue card.
If the sex or dam listed on the passport differs from the DNA prediction, verify the DNA result and update the passport if necessary. Where applicable, ICBF will update the recorded sire; however, the breed on the passport may still require manual correction.
To access this profile, log in to the ICBF HerdPlus app, open the Profile dropdown menu, and select Genomic Parentage.
Due Repeat Profile
The Due Repeat Profile is now available on the HerdPlus app. This allows herds to track animals that are approaching or overdue being served again, enabling users to stay ahead of the breeding schedule, improve fertility and make informed breeding decisions. To access it, log in to the ICBF HerdPlus app, open the Profile dropdown, and select Due Repeat.
Calf Index Predictions
The purpose of the calf index prediction tool is to predict the genetic merit of a potential calf before conception. Herd owners can run up to ten bulls against their cows and heifers to check for inbreeding and to give predicted metrics on progeny before birth.
The three metrics that can be generated are the:
- Commercial Beef Value (CBV)
- Replacement Index values
- Terminal Index values
This allows farmers to plan matings strategically to improve key traits, avoid inbreeding and accelerate genetic improvement in the herd. The calf index prediction can be accessed in the Applications menu of the ICBF HerdPlus app.
Record Weights
The Record Weights feature in the ICBF HerdPlus app lets you easily record weights on animals in your herd. It calculates useful metrics like average daily gain either from birth or between weighing dates to help you track performance and make informed management decisions. To access, open the ICBF HerdPlus app, tap Record Events, then select Record Weights.
