1. Hair Samples should be pulled from the end of the tail.
  2. The hair must be clean and dry with the roots attached
  3. Extreme care must be taken to avoid contamination of hair roots from one animal to another.
  4. Make sure that the hair samples have follicles as it is the root follicles that contain the DNA and not the hair itself. 40 to 60 root follicles are required for each sample.
  5. Peel back the plastic cover on the inside of the hair collection card. Place the hair with the Roots pointing inwards in the centre of the card. This is also illustrated on the back of the collection card.
  6. Seal the plastic cover smoothly over the hair follicles. If possible, avoid re-opening the plastic cover
  7. Close the collection card and insert the tab into the slot at the end of the card.
  8. Place the hair sample card in the re-sealable plastic bag provided (1 card per bag) and return to ICBF, Link Rod, Ballincollig, Co. Cork in the envelope supplied.
