John is operating a dairy and tillage enterprise on the farm in Co. Wicklow. The dairy herd comprising of 320 FR and FRX cows calving in two blocks, Spring and Autumn. Cows are bred using a blend of dairy AI and mopped up by a team of mostly Angus stock bulls. John is certainly a repeat customer for Fellfort bulls having bought 8 from Ben Ryall over the years. They were first introduced using the Stock Bull Finder. He is very happy with the quality of calves his bulls are producing.
One such bull is Fellfort V Lando 1597. Sired by AA4235, this young bull is showing great promise with the first of his calves landing on the ground this Spring. John says that to date they are born easily and thrive quickly. Lando has a DBI of €161 and a Beef Sub – Index of €103, rendering his progeny eligible for the Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme (DBWS). He has a dairy cow calving difficulty of 2.2% and 6.7% on dairy heifers.
