Beef Cow Population by County

We have taken the 2016 beef cow population figures and broken them down county by county so we can see which counties are the most heavily populated. County Galway is leading the way with a total of 105,861 beef cows.

COW Profile accessed by >1000 herds in only 2 days

ICBF and Teagasc launched a new decision support tool, the C.O.W. (Cow’s Own Worth), to aid in culling and retention decisions of dairy females on Tuesday 31st of October. The new C.O.W. profile has been accessed by over 1,000 distinct herds since it was launched on Tuesday morning.

There are over 6.1M Genotypes in the national database and counting. ICBF is the largest Beef Genomics database in the world.

That’s ‘Billion’ with a ‘B’ (Over 218 times the population of China). SNPs are the most common type of genetic variation between animals.
