EdX in conjunction with Wageningen University and Research are offering a free 7 week online course on Animal Breeding and Genetics. This online course opens on the 13th of February.

On the 13th of February a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Animal Breeding and Genetics (ABG) will be launched on the online education platform EdX. While taking this course, students can learn the basic principles of animal breeding and genetics, from the general set- up of a breeding programme to the estimation of breeding values for specific animals.

The course structure follows the 7 steps (modules) in the design of a breeding programme. Each module consists of diverse teaching materials: short clips, exercises, assignments and student interaction on the discussion forum. The course is self-paced and can be completed at any time within seven weeks of the 13th of February.

The ABG course which requires approximately 4 hours of student engagement a week, has been designed by lecturers from the Animal Breeding and Genetics Group in Wageningen University (WUR) in The Netherlands, who are world leaders in the field of Genetics and Genomics.

ABG offers an advanced starting point for any student who wishes to pursue a higher qualification in Animal Breeding such as M.Sc. level courses in breeding, also this course is suitable for professionals working within the animal breeding industry who want to expand their knowledge of breeding programmes and genetic improvement.
