The latest addition to the ICBF presentations page is a presentation on A dairy-beef index to rank beef bulls on profitability when mated to a dairy cow put together by ICBF, Teagasc and AbacusBio.
This presentation was presented by Donagh Berry at the Teagasc national beef conference 2018 which took place this week in the Tullamore Court Hotel, Co. Offaly. The presentation was received exceptionally well by the conference attendees. ‘Adressing the Challenges‘ was the theme for this year’s Teagasc National Beef Conference.
“There is phenomenal variability within a breed. There is an opportunity to improve the quality of the animals from the dairy beef herd, without a massive compromise from a dairy farmer’s perspective. We need to create an index which is easy to use, so the dairy farmer can see the ranking of the bulls that are going to be better for their dairy cow.”
