Updates in Dairy Calving Reports

The 2021 dairy calving reports were generated last week and this year’s report includes updates to the definitions of some important metrics. This follows a review of previous years stats where some herds figures were not giving an accurate representation of the calving performance of the herd. This year’s changes have also been incorporated into previous years national statistics.

ICBF Database in Numbers

Genotypes
1 Million

There are over 6.1M Genotypes in the national database and counting. ICBF is the largest Beef Genomics database in the world.

SNPs
1 Billion

That’s ‘Billion’ with a ‘B’ (Over 218 times the population of China). SNPs are the most common type of genetic variation between animals.

Pieces of Data
1 Billion

There are over 2 Billion pieces of phenotypic (non genomic) data stored on the ICBF database.
