We had a record-breaking week in the Genotyping Lab last week! Between Monday and Friday, an incredible 116,662 calf DNA samples were scanned — the largest weekly intake ever! A huge milestone for genetic progress and the team behind it.

Last week’s figures

  • 116,662 calf samples were received in the lab.
  • 85,527 calf samples were processed in the lab.
  • The average time from birth to the sample being received in the lab was 8.1 days.
  • The average time a sample spent in the lab last week was 4.1 days.
  • The average turnaround time from birth to passport being issued was 14.1 days.

As calving continues across the country, we encourage all farmers to post DNA and BVD samples regularly to avoid any potential postage delays.

Have you downloaded the ICBF HerdPlus app?

Download the ICBF HerdPlus app to quickly track the sample through the full genotyping process of animals and submission of calves for the NGP, from the sample being requested, received on farm, sample sent to lab, sire and dam verification to receiving a full genomic evaluation. The genotype tracking shows an estimate of when you will receive a result for the sample.

The Action List available on the app will highlight which calves require an action to complete registration and will detail what action is required! Make sure you have the latest version downloaded to access the newest features on the app.
