With the 2026 breeding season coming to a close for many dairy herds, now is a good time to review your herd’s fertility performance and identify areas to focus on ahead of the next breeding season.
The ICBF End of Season Fertility Report provides an overview of your herd’s breeding performance, bringing key fertility measures such as submission rates, conception rates and pregnancy rates together in one report.
Reviewing this information can help identify what worked well during the breeding season, highlight areas for improvement and support breeding and management decisions for the year ahead.
Assess Your Herd’s Fertility Performance
The End of Season Fertility Report tracks your herd’s performance from calving through to the end of the breeding season. By entering your calving start date and mating start date, the report provides a clear picture of breeding performance throughout the season.
The report allows you to review:
- How quickly cows and heifers were submitted for breeding
- How successful first and subsequent services were
- How pregnancy progressed throughout the breeding season
- Areas of fertility performance that may require further attention
Reviewing these measures provides a useful opportunity to assess your herd’s overall fertility performance and identify areas to focus on for the next breeding season.
What Does the End of Season Fertility Report Show?
The report is divided into several sections, each providing a different insight into your herd’s breeding and fertility performance.
-
Calving & Fertility Data
This section provides an overview of your herd’s calving pattern and fertility information, helping you assess performance from calving through to the breeding season.
-
Submission Profile
The Submission Profile tracks weekly submission rates, showing how quickly cows and heifers were served from the mating start date and how breeding activity progressed throughout the season.
This can help identify whether eligible animals were submitted for breeding early in the season or whether there were delays that may have affected overall fertility performance.
-
Key Fertility Performance Indicators
The report brings together several important fertility KPIs, including:
- 21-day submission rate
- 42-day submission rate
- 1st service conception rate
- 6-week pregnancy rate
- Overall pregnancy rate
Your herd’s results can be compared with national averages as well as the top 5% and bottom 5% of herds, giving you a useful benchmark for assessing performance.
-
Repeat Intervals
The Repeat Intervals section categorises returns into short, normal and prolonged intervals.
Reviewing repeat intervals can help identify patterns within the herd, including potential fertility issues, missed heats or animals that may require further attention.
-
Fertility Performance by Lactation Number
Fertility performance is also broken down by lactation number, allowing you to compare performance across different groups within the herd.
Reviewing fertility by lactation can help highlight whether particular groups, such as first-calvers or older cows, are performing differently and may require additional attention.
-
Dairy Bull Usage
The Dairy Bull Usage section summarises the dairy bulls used during the breeding season, including their Economic Breeding Index (EBI) and in-calf performance.
Reviewing this information can help when assessing breeding decisions made during the season and planning your breeding strategy for the year ahead.
-
Beef Bull Usage
The Beef Bull Usage section provides similar information for beef sires used within the herd, including their Dairy Beef Index (DBI) and associated fertility performance.
This provides an opportunity to review the performance of beef sires used across the herd alongside your overall breeding results.
-
Action List
The Action List highlights cows that have not yet been served or confirmed in-calf, helping you quickly identify animals that may require attention.
Reviewing this list alongside the other sections of the report gives you a clearer picture of individual animals as well as overall herd fertility performance.
Why Run an End of Season Fertility Report?
The End of Season Fertility Report brings your calving, breeding and pregnancy information together in one place, making it easier to assess your herd’s performance at the end of the breeding season.

It also provides valuable information to consider when making breeding and management decisions for the next season.
