Company profile: ICBF is the organisation responsible for genetic improvement of the Irish dairy and beef herd. It is also responsible for genetic improvement of sheep, through Sheep Ireland. ICBF achieves its genetic improvement objectives through focusing on three key areas; (i) the ICBF database (ii) genetic/genomic evaluations of over 50 beef traits and 35 dairy traits, and (iii) the operation of the G€N€ IR€LAND breeding program on behalf of the AI industry and dairy and beef herdbooks. In addition, ICBF is at the forefront of developing and implementing genomic technologies within its dairy and beef programs. It is also a member of ICAR (the International Committee for Animal Recording) and participates in the routine evaluations of dairy and beef cattle through Interbull and Interbeef. ICBF is also involved in many research projects with strong links to both national and international research institutes.

 The position:  We are currently recruiting for a Geneticist to work within the area of dairy and beef cattle genetic and genomic evaluations. Prospective areas include genetic parameter estimation for new traits of interest such as health and disease and feed intake, as well as research in the area of multi breed genomic evaluations and single step evaluations.

 Qualifications and experience.  You will need to have completed, or nearly completed, a PhD in Animal Science, Genetics, Statistical Genetics or a related area. You will be able to demonstrate a track record in research achievement along with experience in statistical analysis of quantitative genetic models, and analysis of genomic data. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills with a strong aptitude for IT applied to animal breeding and genetics.
