The new ICBF Whole Herd Recording Program has just recently passed the significant milestone of having 500 pedigree breeders signing up to avail of the service. The new WHPR program has replaced the old way in which pedigree beef herds were performance recorded by ICBF.

Farmer Name: Vivian Silke
Breed(s): Simmental and Charolais
History of the Pedigree herd: First got into Simmental’s 24 years ago by purchasing 3 in-calf heifers and 2 weanlings heifers from the Lakeview Herd in Mayo with bloodlines including HRG and Planet. Sourced a weanling and a calved cow from the Knockmeal Herd in Waterford and gradually bred from those. Liked the docility and easy care nature of the Simmental Breed. Purchased an in-calf Charolais Heifer at the sale in Elphin in 2014 and purchased an aged in-calf cow from Patsy McCabe’s dispersal sale in October 2016 that had twin bull calves by Fiston this April (pictured below).
