Rules of GROW

New Scoring & Weighing Rules from 1st June 2008

1. All eligible animals must be Scored AND Weighed.

2. Eligible Animals:

    a. 150 – 300 days old.
    b. Minimum group of 5 – can included different pedigree breeds.
    c. Preferably by 2 different sires.
    d. Commercials with known sires may be included.
    e. Maximum of 3 visits/breeder/year.
    f. Only sick/injured animals may be excluded at discretion of scorer.

If the above rules are not complied with your scores & weights will NOT be included in
your BLUP & €uro – Star figures.

Why are these rules necessary?

  • Ensure you receive accurate BLUP & €uro – Star figures
  • To ensure that the performance recording of Irish cattle is in line with best practise in
other well known beef breeding countries – France, UK, Australia etc.
  • Currently too many Pedigree cattle are being scored over 300 days old, in small group sizes, without being weighed. This is leading to inaccurate BLUP & €uro – Star figures.
