The Top 200 herds for EBI have been revealed. This run has seen no major changes at the top with the top 5 herds remaining the same as the previous run. The top herd has also seen no change to the EBI figure remaining at €235, the same as the previous run.

Again it is Patrick Flynn, Kilworth, Co. Cork who remains in pole position. This is in fact Patrick’s fifth consecutive time in the number 1 position. Patrick has an average herd EBI of €235 (€24 coming from the milk sub-index and €180 coming from the fertility sub-index).

Kieran Hearne, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Waterford again remains in second position with an EBI of €232 (€63 coming from the milk sub-index and €137 coming from the fertility sub-index). Martin Kinane remains at number 3 on the list with an EBI of €229 (€70 coming from the milk sub-index and €128 coming from the fertility sub-index). This is now the Third consecutive evaluation run where there has been no change to the top 3 herds.

Liam O Leary, Conna, Co. Cork has retained fourth position with an EBI of €228 (€72 coming from the milk sub-index and €124 coming from the fertility sub-index) while Jim Delahunt, Carrig, Co. Tipperary remains in fifth position with an EBI of €226 (€51 coming from the milk sub-index and €140 coming from the fertility sub-index)

John Ahern, Glanmire, Co. Cork has recorded the biggest jump for this evaluation with his average EBI rising from €188 to €199, an average jump of €11. This puts John in 67th position on the list, a massive 112 places better than the previous evaluation.

There are now 63 herds with an EBI of €200 or more. This is an increase of 9 herds from the previous evaluation. This top 200 saw 12 herds make the list for the first time with 60 herds climbing up the ranks. Below is a list of how the top herds rank per county.

The average EBI of the Top 200 herds is €198(up €1) with €60 coming from the Milk Sub-Index and €105 from the Fertility Sub-Index. This compares with a national average of €134 – see table below.
